6. Vegetable Oil Is Processed With Toxic Hexane
During canola oil’s manufacturing process, the rapeseed is washed in pure hexane. Hexanes are compounds that are a main component in gasoline. The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) labels hexane as an air pollutant and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) considers it a neurotoxin.
Hexane is also used as a solvent for varnishes, rubber cement, adhesives and inks.
