Cayenne pepper is very hot and consuming it usually results in a burning sensation that increases the body’s temperature. This warm result is due to the capsaicin in the pepper. The alkaline pepper is not only hot, it is associated with several health benefits for humans, including boosting the metabolism, and possessing the ability to lower the blood sugar.

The human body’s cells requires glucose to make energy and to perform its metabolic duties. However, when there is excess blood sugar, or blood glucose, it can hinder blood vessel function and reduce blood flow to the organs, resulting in organ damage and disease. According to MayoClinic.com, the body tries to control blood sugar and keep its number between 70 and 110 mg/dL. High blood sugar levels develop when people consume too much junk foods and carbs, which leads to insufficient insulin production.

Consuming cayenne pepper lowers blood sugar in people, according to a report in the “Journal of the Medical Association of Thailand.” In the study, researchers at Mahidol University in Thailand analyzed the effects of cayenne pepper on plasma glucose levels in healthy Thai women. The participants consumed a glucose drink with or without 5 grams of cayenne pepper. The researchers concluded that the subjects in the cayenne pepper group had significantly lower blood glucose levels just 30 minutes after consumption in comparison to those that didn’t take the cayenne pepper.
