Purslane is an edible green plant that is native to Indian, but has spread all across the globe. The alkaline vegetable usually has red stems, green leaves and the flowers are typically a bright yellow. Purslane is high in essential mineral like, magnesium, calcium, potassium and iron, and in result, it has great health benefits for people who consume it.
Purslane have been shown to be very effective in preventing and fighting breast cancer, lung cancer, cervical cancer, and sarcoma in scientific studies.
Researchers at the University of Texas at San Antonio concluded that purslane has up to 20 times more of the possibly cancer-growth-inhibiting antioxidant melatonin than many other common fruits and vegetables.
Beside cancer, the alkaline green has also been shown to help adults with type 2 diabetes by significantly lowering their weight, blood sugar, cholesterol and triglycerides.
Purslane can be added to salads, soups, stews, stir fry or a smoothie.
