In a test to rank which food has the highest Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity strawberries placed second. The USDA Human Nutrition Center ranks foods by their ORAC value, strawberries showed to have great ORAC value because of their high antioxidant levels and disease fighting capabilities. Fresh strawberries have an ORAC value of 1,540 per 100 grams and scientists believe that the berries are capable of increasing the body’s cancer fighting ability. Blueberries had the highest score.
Strawberries contain compounds with the ability to rid cancer cells from the body in laboratory studies. In other reports, the fruit helped the liver remove some cancer-causing substances from the blood. Vincent Zannoni at the University of Michigan Medical School has shown that antioxidants in strawberries also helps to flush fats from the liver.
